Dr. Dorothy Nyambi (The Leprosy Mission Canada) (MD, MPH, MSc) Team Leader and heads the International Programs team at the Leprosy Mission Canada. She has been with TLMC for 2 years prior to which she served as the Vice President for International programs at CESO | SACO, a volunteer corporation agency in Canada.
Dorothy has been working in international development for 18+ years in a wide range of organizations and sectors. She trained as a Physician in Cameroon following her Undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin. She completed her post graduate education at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa focusing on health systems strengthening, measurements and metrics. In addition to working for the government of Cameroon, she also worked for the U.S. Peace Corps in sub-Saharan African, Eastern Europe, Asia and Washington, DC; USAID, CARE and Population Services International. She has developed and managed major health sector projects (bilateral and responsive) for government donors and foundations. Most recently, Dr. Nyambi also served as the Toronto-based Regional Director for West and Francophone Africa with Right To Play International.
She describes herself as a social entrepreneur and has created a consultancy firm in partnership with other colleagues to provide technical support and capacity development for organizations and funders in areas of project/program design, monitoring and evaluation especially in health, education and livelihood programs. She also serves as a volunteer with UNICEF Canada and on the board of two not-for-profit organizations in Canada. She lives in Toronto with her husband and three children.
