OneHealth NTD at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
June 7th 2012
Pr. Alan Fenwick (SCI, Imperial College London) has been at Imperial College for 10 years as director of SCI and Professor of Tropical parasitology. His ambition is to see all rural African people having access to treatments against NTDs, and all doctors graduating from medical schools in UK to be aware of the NTDs. Alan has lived and worked in Tanzania, Sudan and Egypt, eliminating schistosomiasis as a public health problem before returning to UK in 2002. His work has been recognised by the award of an OBE and a medal from the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
"Elimination of NTDs by 2020 - an ambitious target" - The presentation will discuss which NTDs might be eradicated by 2020, which may be eliminated and those that we will struggle to reach elimination by 2020. What strategies will be needed to move from control to elimination? And which countries will be closest to eliminating their NTD transmission by 2020.
